Neem + Chaparral Soap
If I had to pick one soap that is beneficial for a multitude of skin conditions, this would be it! Neem oil is an extremely versatile oil reportedly helping both dry, itchy conditions like eczema as well as balancing oil breakouts. Neem oil is prized for its anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties.
What better herb to combine with the neem oil than another healing powerhouse? Chaparral (Larrea tridentata) is a very abundant plant in desert regions of my area. It is tenacious and grows vigorously through the southwest. An ancient healing plant commonly known as creosote, I am continually amazed at the capabilities of this under recognized ally.
This soap is lovingly crafted with lots of neem and chaparral infused oil. Patchouli essential oil adds depth and warmth to the intensity of the neem and Larrea aromatics.
All of my soaps are made from scratch are all natural and chemical free, SLS free, dye and fragrance free. Most skincare and soap uses synthetic fragrance oils and micas, oxides and dyes as colorants. In the spirit of keeping my bars as close to nature as possible I only use essential oils and botanicals or clay for colorants. I find this to be of great benefit to the body because while micas, oxides, dyes and synthetic fragrances offer no skin healing properties, essential oils and botanicals/clays are well known to be nourishing to the skin and emotionally balancing to the user. While most commercial soaps rely on sulfates to create their lather, cold-process soap gets its creamy lather from the saponins in the oils that are released during the reaction of lye and oil. No lye remains in the finished bar of soap. I super-fat my soaps which means a portion of the oils remain un-saponified resulting in a cleansing yet moisturizing bar.
